This presentation will provide an overview of the foundational principles of behavioral interventions, and more specifically, Positive Behavior Support (PBS). All behavior is communicative, and that is especially true for young children who do not yet have the skills to verbally communicate what they feel, want, or need. Learn how behavior analysts identify the functions of behaviors and help children learn new ways to get their needs met.

After this session participants will:

  • Understanding why children (and adults) do what they do will help you develop individualized strategies to reduce disruptive or maladaptive behavior, and increase pro-social and adaptive behaviors.
  • Understand that all behavior is a form of communication.
  • Understand the foundational principles of positive behavioral support.
  • Be able to assess the functions of behavior.
  • Be able to apply some positive behavioral strategies to reduce challenging behavior and to share this information with parents.
