Children learn to understand the world around them by watching everyday tasks and activities happening on a day-to-day basis. A child with a visual impairment might not have the same naturally occurring opportunities to gain as much visual information.
The content in this presentation will focus on intervention ideas and strategies that promote overall learning and development for children who are visually impaired, to help them reach their full potential. In addition, we will discuss typical visual development, what are some vision issues that can occur in young children, and we will explore some commonly used terms such as acuity, field of vision and 20/20 vision.
Participant Objectives:
- Learn about typical visual development
- Explore some vision issues that can occur in young children
- Gain an understanding of commonly used terms in the vision world
- Learn about key areas to focus on when providing early intervention to families with children who have a visual impairment
