is presentation will provide an overview of current research focused on und
erstanding autism in girls and women. Topics will include biological and cl
inical theories about the difference in the sex ratio of autism as well as
current insights into sex differences in autism and unique challenges faced
by autistic girls and women.
Participant Objectives:
Christine Wu Nordahl, Ph.D
. is a professor and neuroscientist in the Department of Psychiatry and Beh
avioral Sciences at the UC Davis MIND Institute. Her research program utili
zes structural and functional MRI scans to study brain development in autis
m across the life span. She directs the Autism Phenome Project and Girls wi
th Autism - Imaging of Neurodevelopment study, two integrated longitudinal,
interdisciplinary studies aimed at identifying clinically meaningful subty
pes of autism.
She is particularly committed to evaluating the e
ntire autism spectrum, including girls with autism as well as the entire ra
nge of intellectual abilities. In 2021, she and her team initiated NeuroTee
ns, a social support group for neurodivergent girls and non-binary teens.
